Adline

What Adline reads, and what it does not

Most software asks for everything and explains nothing. Adline is a compliance product, so the honest version matters more here than it does elsewhere.

What Adline reads

Adline reads marketing you have published. Specifically:

  • Website pages, landing pages and funnel pages
  • Blog posts, including old ones
  • Social posts, their captions, and comments made from your own accounts
  • Email templates and campaign content
  • Forms, surveys and chat widget copy
  • Images, video and media used in marketing
  • Your business name, license numbers, disclosures and custom fields, so findings can be checked against the identity you are required to display

All of it is content you have already made public, or content you have written in order to make public.

What Adline does not read

Adline holds no permission to read any of the following, and cannot read them even if it wanted to:

  • Your contacts. Names, phone numbers, email addresses and consumer records.
  • Your conversations. Text messages, emails and chat threads with your customers.
  • Payments, invoices, charges and billing records.
  • Opportunities, pipelines and deal data.
  • Calendars and appointments.

This is not a policy that could change quietly. It is a function of the permissions Adline requested when it was built. The permissions Adline holds are visible to you on the screen where you install it, and adding a permission after the fact requires a new version of the application and a new approval from you.

Why it is built this way

Advertising copy lives in templates, pages and posts. It does not live in a consumer's message history. Reading customer conversations would add nothing to what Adline can detect, and it would make Adline a holder of consumer data it has no reason to hold.

A compliance vendor with a breach is a compliance problem. The safest data is the data you never collected.

Retention

Findings are retained so you can see what changed over time, and so a finding you have already reviewed does not alert you again. Page content Adline reads in order to produce a finding is retained only as the verbatim quoted phrase shown in the finding, plus the URL it came from.

Cancelling your subscription stops scanning and stops billing. Your findings are retained rather than deleted, so a history you may need later is not destroyed by a lapsed card. You can ask for them to be deleted at any time by writing to support@getadline.com.
